Recent Beautiful Bridals

Bridal sessions in the winter can be challenging.  You can't just rely on a bunch of pretty tulips to cover up average photography.  You really need an understanding of light and how to use it to your advantage.  It also helps to have a creative eye for backgrounds you wouldn't normally think of - like the white siding you see below.  There's nothing great about siding, but couple it with black and white in the winter and also the bride's personality and stunning dress, and you have something pretty cool!  The studio and window pictures were taken in the old Victorian mansion I'm located in.  It's a reception center in Layton called The Victorian.  You really need to have your ceremony/reception here!  The 2 acres of manicured gardens are incredible.

Cute as a button

Look at this cutie from yesterday!  She needed some headshots pronto because she's been accepted into a prestigious singing group.  I asked her to sing for me to earn her keep, and WOW, what a fantastic voice!  She's only 11 and I thought I was listening to an American Idol tryout - one of the good ones:)

Winter Engagement

People assume that winter in Utah is a horrible time for pictures, especially when we haven't seen the snowfall we usually see this time of year.  I've brought along a few new images to prove these naysayers wrong.  This great looking couple met at the U of U, so we used that as the backdrop for their engagement session.  If in doubt about your location go with a place that has meaning to both of you - in this case the U of U and more specifically the library building where they met.

Dang Cat

We have a cat.  I'm not thrilled about it, but since I was the one who fed the stray, I have no one to blame but myself.  It came to us on New Years Eve - this striking grey kitty who knew just how to lean into us and figure-eight around our legs.  I couldn't help but reach down to pet it.  Then my son ran inside shouting, "There's a cat outside."  My children bounded upstairs like they were racing to see a marooned alien in our driveway.  They all immediately fell in love with Eve - yes, we named her Eve because she came to us on New Years Eve.  I at least succeeded in giving her the middle name of Farkus after Scott Farkus from The Christmas Story.  So, after numerous Facebook postings asking if anyone lost a cat, and a $105 trip to the Vet, and $75 at Petsmart, Eve Farkus has a new home.

My latest photo bomb

This is the 4th wedding I've photographed for Leisa's family.  Just to clarify - NOT Leisa's 4th wedding, but the 4th in her family:)  I would have done something more creative, like a dive bomb from behind, but it was just too cold right before Christmas.

Congratulations to the couples who made it official over the holidays.  It's a fun time of year to start planning a wedding, but don't wait too long to start making some committments.  If you have not yet started the planning process then follow my easy two step process:

I'm a little biased because I'm a photographer and I'm located at the beautiful Victorian Reception Center in Layton. But seriously, if you are looking at a Saturday in May, so are 500 other couples from Provo to Logan.  Yes, the number really is that high.  There are only so many beautiful locations and good photographers to go around.  So, go out to dinner and a movie tonight, but tomorrow get to work on your wedding plans!

I realize it's been several weeks with no new pictures on my blog.  I just delivered my last collection of portraits for the Christmas season, and now I can breathe again:)  Thank you to all of my teriffic clients and friends who made this my busiest season in the past several years.  Lots of pictures to come when I am back in the office next week.

What a difference a day makes:)

From beautiful fall colors on Friday, to the cold and snow on Saturday.  Both make for some truly beautiful pictures!  I thought it would be fun to post a few from both days to see the difference 12 hours can make in Utah.

It's not too late for fall colors, by the way.  I've had a few people calling asking if they can still get in for fall colors or if they missed the boat.  You are still good until around Thanksgiving on my private grounds.  I have two acres of landscaped beauty just waiting for your family!

Sweet new phone and some pictures

It's been a crazy week!  Lots of families in fall colors, and also my new iPhone:)!:)!:)!  I just made up that sign - it's a mix of smiles and shouting.  I should be posting more pictures but I'm too busy playing with my phone.

I'll post some favorites from last Saturday.  Saturdays are always crazy.  If I don't have a wedding then I fill it right up with several families.  I've chosen my single favorite image from each family - some artistic, some goofy, some just cute.

Fall Seniors

Everyone thinks of family pictures in the fall, but it's also the best time of year for graduating senior pictures.  It's by far the most beautiful time of year with the colors, and you miss the rush in May when every mom in utah realizes that her son/daughter is finally on the graduation list and it's time for pictures.

Erica came all the way from Wyoming for her pictures.  I also photographed her sister a few years ago.  We all go to Wyoming for the illegal fireworks, and they all come here for awesome photography:)
